May 30, 2009, the Town of Sparta and Alleghany County issued joint proclamations in appreciation for contributions made to Alleghany County's 150th Anniversary to David Joines, Ernest Joines, and Gracen Lucas. Commisioner Chairman Ken Richardson and Sparta Mayor John Miller were on hand to make the presentations. Mayor Miller also presented each of them a key to the town.

David Joines built both the fiddle and dulcimer that are being raffled off as fundraisers for the Sesquicentennial Committee.

Ernest Joines put together a set of 4 CDs, Alleghany Musicians Past & Present, which feature over 200 local musicians and singers.

Gracen Lucas beautifully carved the Sesquicentennial Seal in the back of the fiddle made by David Joines.

These three men have made their town and county proud.
